A Message from our President
Spring Update
I planted some early blooming daffodils last fall. They are right by my driveway. They are my focus as I get in and out of my car—in the rain, on the cloudy days, and finally today in the sun. They are a precursor to the dozens of late blooming daffodils, tulips and warm weather that will eventually come.
We need a focus in our lives during grey days. We need reminders of the good things to come. As your CTSO President, you and our organization are my focus. I have the bylaws and standing rules on my work table. I have a cork board with lists. I have folders (lots of folders) that cover every aspect of our organization. But…I need a picture. The CYSO members are my picture. I saw 29 of you last week at our zoom executive board meeting. I. have seen several more at lunches with presidents. I look forward to seeing you at the spring convention. Please consider inviting me to one of your meetings. I don’t need to be entertained; any meeting is fine.
I also hope to see you at our leadership conference on June 22. To make attendance easier, the June executive board meeting is canceled.
May you enjoy whichever of the many spring holidays are happening in March.
Thank you for all your support. Thank you for all you do for our CTSO.

February Updates
There have been some questions about the fall Keynote. Our Keynote editor, LeAnn Hinkle, had some unexpected family and work issues that made getting the Keynote out to us a challenge. Last month on our website under “Around the State”, I posted all the articles that were sent to me first, before I forwarded them to LeAnn. I hesitated to call it the Keynote as I don’t have the skills to replicate our newsletter as it has always appeared. Be assured that for those of you who took the time to submit an article, those articles are available to all members on our website.
It is now time to begin submitting articles to the spring edition of the Keynote. Laura Gilson, Zeta Chapter, has generously agreed to help prepare and send this spring edition to everyone in a timely manner. The deadline for this issue will be March 2, the day of our executive board meeting. This allows us 2 weeks to include any information about bylaws changes and to also include the registration for our April 27 spring convention. Please send articles to me ([email protected]). I will forward them to Laura.
We cannot count on challenges to come at convenient times; but we can count on our DKG sisters (thank you, Laura!) to step in to help.

- For those members who have earned pins signifying 25, 30, 40, or 50 years of membership and have placed them aside for an updated year: Would you consider donating them to our state organization for members who are in line to earn that pin? If so, please contact Carole Franceschet ([email protected]; 203-988-6294) who takes care of longevity.
- Please take one minute to complete the survey from International by 2/9. They are polling members to learn the best way to create interest groups, professional networking, and learning groups. (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M8ZDQ5N)
- When you sign into DKG.org to check out our CTSO website, take the time to click on International Convention in National Harbor, MD the week of July 9-13. Not only is this year’s convention relatively close (one day’s drive), Tsipi Ben-Haim who was nominated by our Curriculum of Hope, will be inducted as an International Honorary Member.
- I would like to add a topic to our website titled Losses. It would list the name of members who have had a family loss. (member’s name, chapter, date of loss, and name and relationship of deceased.) A chapter member would send the information to Emily to be posted. With fewer in-person meetings, we are often not aware of members’ losses. Please send me your thoughts. Would this be invasive? Would we need the permission of the member?
- This will be posted on our website so that you can access the information at any time.

A New Year's Message from our President
Happy 2024 to CTSO members! Do you love new starts? We have the chance to correct and improve—diet, relationships, habits. I received a calendar with this quote from author Jerry Spinelli: “I love beginnings. If I were in charge of calendars, every day would be January 1.” After a summer of chapter visits, a September in-person executive board meeting, and a fall zoom conference, I realized I would not have any direct contact with members until the spring convention. I plan to start “Lunch with Lenore” with chapter presidents. The purpose will be social, but it will also be an opportunity to talk about what is going well and what I can do to help. For those presidents who are still working, consider a Saturday or a day during a spring break. Expect a call!
If you are planning a Zoom meeting with a speaker, please consider opening it to other chapters. The same goes for in-person meetings that could accommodate
others. Please remember our members who do not have access to email.
Congratulations to Curriculum of Hope and Theta members Sue Moon and Pat O’Connell-Buckley for following up on Jeanne Morascini’s wish to nominate Tsipi
Ben-Haim for International Honorary Membership in DKG. She has accepted and will be inducted during this year’s International Convention in National Harbor,
MD during the week of July 9-13.
Here is a possible meeting activity. Ask members to go to the DKG website and click on State Organization Chapter Sites. Click on our area: NE. There are 21
state/country sites in the North East. Click on several of the NE sites. While several states (Rhode Island and Puerto Rico) have no website listed, some are very good, Illinois being the gold standard. I would love to have a group of computer-savvy women consider changes to our CTSO site.
I would like the chance to talk to teachers in private schools as well as public schools, perhaps at the end of a faculty meeting. I just need a “foot in the door.”
Let me know if you have a connection with a principal so I can take recruitment on the road.

Connecticut Pieces For Peace Exhibition
Youth from across Connecticut have voiced their hopes for peace through their artwork, by answering the question: "What does peace look like to you?" By participating in our Pieces for Peace project, students have used their creative and unique abilities to express their hope that bridges cultural understanding between all young people and their peers, here in CT and throughout the world.
All students who participated in this project have their artwork displayed online here in our Connecticut State Organization web site Gallery through the efforts of Emily Lozinak, webmaster. Click here to view all the submissions. Additionally, thirty Pieces for Peace, selected by their teachers, have been framed to create our CONNECTICUT PIECES FOR PEACE TRAVELING EXHIBITION. It will be on display in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, April 16 through April 30 and again December 3 through December 28, 2018. Visit the Pieces for Peace page to see pictures from the traveling exhibit.
